Highlights of our Private Grand Mesa Tour

The Scenic Climb (Hwy 65) We begin by heading east through the Plateau Creek Canyon, winding our way up the Scenic Byway. As we climb, you will watch the landscape transform from red rock desert to lush aspen groves and spruce forests. In our GMC Sierra EV Denali, you can enjoy the towering trees through the sealed panoramic glass roof, which floods the cabin with natural light while keeping the climate-controlled air inside perfect.

Historic Lodges & Alpine Lakes Once on top of the Mesa, we tour the most iconic stops. We will visit the Mesa Lakes area to see the shimmering water, then continue to the historic Grand Mesa Lodge and Alexander Lake Lodge. You will have the opportunity to stop for a relaxing lunch at whichever lodge you prefer, enjoying a meal with a view of the water. We also make sure to cruise by the Visitor Center and Island Lake—the largest lake on the mountain—offering plenty of chances for photos without any strenuous hiking.

Lands End Observatory After lunch and lake viewing, we drive out to the Lands End Observatory. Perched on the very rim of the Mesa, this historic site offers jaw-dropping views of the valley floor 6,000 feet below. On a clear day, you can see the San Juan Mountains to the south and the La Sal Mountains in Utah to the west.

The Adventure Descent For the return trip, we take the path less traveled: Lands End Road. This gravel switchback road winds down the face of the Mesa, offering constant, sweeping views of the Grand Valley that you can’t see from the main highway. Our full-size EV truck handles this rugged descent with ease, providing a smooth and safe finish to your alpine adventure before we arrive back in Grand Junction.

Grand Mesa Tour FAQ’s

Get your questions answered

No, this is a sightseeing driving tour designed for relaxation. We pull right up to the best viewpoints, lodges, and lakes so you can enjoy the scenery without needing hiking boots or backpacks.

The Mesa is home to healthy populations of mule deer and birds of prey. Keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles and hawks soaring above the lakes! While moose, and bears do inhabit the area, they are rarely seen, making it a special treat if we do spot one!

Yes. Lands End Road is a gravel road with many switchbacks, but our vehicle is perfectly suited for it. The GMC Sierra EV features advanced suspension and heavy batteries that provide a low center of gravity, making the descent smooth, stable, and incredibly scenic. If weather conditions make the Lands End Road descent unsafe (due to mud or snow), we will use an alternate route down into Cedaredge and back to Grand Junction.

We provide complimentary bottled water. The cost of lunch is not included, but we allocate time in the schedule for a sit-down meal at either Grand Mesa Lodge or Alexander Lake Lodge, depending on your preference and their operating hours.

Our luxury EV comfortably seats a maximum of 4 passengers. This limit ensures everyone has enough personal space for the duration of the tour.
